This week’s featured athlete is Molly Flanagan ‘19, who plays three varsity sports. Get an inside look into her sports life!
KH: Welcome, Molly. Can you tell me what sports you play?
MF: [I play] Varsity Field hockey, Varsity Hockey and Varsity Lacrosse.
KH: Wow, how long have you been playing these sports?
MF: I’ve been playing hockey for 8 years, and I’ve been playing field hockey and lacrosse for 2 and a half years.
KH: What is it like to play three varsity sports?
MF: It’s a huge commitment. But I love it and I have a lot of fun doing it.
KH: Let’s talk about Field Hockey. So, why did you choose to play field hockey?
MF: When I came to KUA, I needed to play a fall sport, and I’ve never played field hockey before, so I decided to try it.
KH: What about Hockey? Why did you choose to play hockey?
MF: My dad was a hockey player when he was younger and he always took my sister and me skating all the time. I just kind of fell in love with the sport that way.
KH: How many hours do you practice every week?
MF: Hmm… Since being at boarding school, I don’t practice hockey as much when I am not in season. But if I were to be in season I would normally practice an hour and a half to two hours a day.
KH: What position do you play in hockey?
KH: What are the skills that you are working on?
MF: I’m working on making my shot harder and more accurate, and I am working on my stick handling skills and making sure to work on my hockey sense as well.
KH: Are you considering continuing playing it in college?
KH: What is something that you want people to know about you as an athlete?
MF: I just really enjoy playing sports and I think that sports are a part of who I am. If I didn’t have sports, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.
